I do find myself of communicating different to people that are from different cultures. I also find myself of learning of talking about their language, their background, the food, and the family traditions they do with their families. I also communicate by them of using sign language and translate newsletter, daily sheets, and parent meeting in their culture. A good example in my classroom is that four of my children are Spanish students and the other four are African America. In the classroom that I have the menus posted with English and Spanish, North Carolina State Regulations, and the labels of toys in the classroom. The three strategies that would help me communicate more effectively the people or groups that I have identified is using the Platinum Rule when it comes communication and culture, how you talk to people, and the way and the tone of your voice when you are communicated. As being a mother, teacher, and educator I will be a positive influence of making eye contact and talking to people the way I would want them to talk to me. I would also be a good listener to other people and be honest and open as I can when it comes to communication.
It sounds like you are doing a lot to represent the cultures in the classroom! Do you ever have the parents help you or come in and share their culture to the other children in the classroom?
ReplyDeleteMalinda,
ReplyDeleteWhen are parents are from another culture they come in a classroom and prepare foods for us to simple of how they do in family traditions and holidays. Yes they come and volunteer from time to time.
Shartarka,
ReplyDeleteIt seems as if the different cultures represented in your class has a variety of ways to get information. That is very good that you know sign language and apply it as one of your forms of communication. making eye contact shows that you are listening and what they are saying is important. Thank you for sharing.
